Your host family will welcome you into their home and hearts. Savour the diversity of Chinese cuisine, help prepare meals together, watch Chinese TV shows, celebrate family occasions, or take weekend trips to nearby attractions. Your host family will be your guide to daily life, teaching you customs, answering questions, and making you feel at home—creating memories that last a lifetime.
Spending time with your host family is expected. Chinese people respect hierarchy and appreciate proper social relations, full of harmony and with minimal conflict. Parents are very involved in their children’s lives and education.
Host families are volunteers, and are not paid for accommodating students.
Normally, the high school is in charge of the host family vetting, conducting interviews with prospective families. You will go to the same school as your host siblings.
It is very challenging for host families to accommodate special dietary requirements and this may affect an applicant’s chance of being selected.
