Social change is not easy. It requires sustained efforts and the participation of many people over time. The Community Development volunteering program of AFS Costa Rica offers the opportunity to connect international volunteers with non-profit organisations that create and develop changemaking initiatives to help communities in need and underprivileged people. With a lot of hard work, change can and will happen.
AFS has partner organisations in different fields and regions of the country. These can be local NGOs, local government offices or community based movements. Interacting in this context, the international volunteers have the opportunity to understand the local reality and can also integrate in the community, live with a local family and improve their Spanish language skills.
The specific activities to be done can vary, depending of the specific need of the hosting organisations and the abilities, initiative and interest of the international volunteers.
