From their staple food such as rice, such as rice and corn, to coffee, spices and oils, Indonesia has got it all. However, as times change, many youths are encouraged to leave farming and become civil servants or corporate workers. Dive head-first into this seemingly basic but incredibly unique field, and find out what you can learn about conserving the natural biodiversity through community-based agricultural work in this modern era.

Overview

The initiative was founded to help smallholder farmers preserve the agricultural ecosystem and maintain an attractive, lucrative, and self-sustainable business in a highly competitive global industry. Discover a different side to the local heritage by working with indigenous farmers, food artisans, and dedicated volunteers in creating high-quality, community-based artisan food products. From building the farmers and artisans’ capacity to working in the field firsthand, get to know the traditional culture in a way you’ve never seen before!

Project Life

This programme consists of both outdoor work and general office activities. Start your day bright and early in the field, where you learn the concept of permaculture and various types of cultivation in the farm. You will also be involved in the process of making, testing, and packaging the products, as well as the service aspect of the industry. Outside of the entrepreneurship itself, you will also contribute in the capacity building of the farmers by sharing your skills, be it in teaching English, organising events, or developing social media contents!

Project Details

The programme is located in one of the organisation’s facilities in Ende, Nusa Tenggara, one of Indonesia’s best kept secrets. Home of the grandeur Mount Kelimutu, this city boasts the pristine shorelines on the south of Flores island.
